Coldplay?s Google+ page is the first to reach 1 million followers

While Britney Spears has set a blazing trail on Google+, as the first personal account to reach first 1 million, and then 2 million followers, when it comes to official Google+ pages, that accolade has just gone to British alternative rock band,?Coldplay.

When it comes to Google+ pages, the figure is slightly skewed as it includes the number of people who have +1?d the page as well. But according to ZoomSphere, a social media statistics site, Coldplay was the first page to cross the 1 million follower mark.

Since the end of January, the page has almost doubled in followers with a huge growth spurt in just this past month.

Elsewhere in social media, Coldplay has 5.8 million followers on Twitter, a far cry from the top 10 with Lady Gaga leading with over 19 million followers. On Facebook, the official Coldplay page has 18 million followers, which also trails far behind the top 10 list.

Next in line on Google+?s top 10 most followed pages?is yet another band. The official Red Hot Chili Pepper?s Google+ page has over 700,000 followers, followed by Pearl Jam, 106 and Park, Team Coco, ESPN, Sugarland, FC Barcelona, Train and Chelsea Football Club.

It?s interesting that out of the top 10 Google+ pages, four of them are mainstream bands, all of which fit into the alternative rock band genre, with not a single official Google-related page, or anything remotely geeky in sight for that matter. Google?s own official page has just over 170,000 followers, while the official Google+ page has just over 140,000.

Introduced in November, Google+ pages have been growing at an impressive rate, outpacing Twitter?s official brand accounts by about four times, but still lagging in comparison to Facebook.

7 University of Washington Students Injured In Brutal Van Crash

BRADLEY, Calif. ? The California Highway Patrol says two vans carrying 22 University of Washington students to a conference collided on a central coast highway Friday, injuring seven students, including two who were hurt when they were ejected from one of the vans.

Officer Joel Newby says the vans were driving south, side by side, on U.S. 101 near Bradley in Monterey County when they crashed into each other around 12:30 p.m.

The collision sent one van into the center divide, where it rolled. Two students were ejected through a broken window. The patrol initially said the two students were seriously injured but later described their injuries as moderate.

The two were taken by helicopter to trauma centers. Two other students with moderate injuries were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

The patrol says the remaining injured students suffered minor injuries that didn't require medical treatment.

The students were on their way to a conference in Santa Maria.

J.J. Abrams 'Very Upset' Over 'Star Trek 2' Leaked Photos

Details have been scarce about the ongoing production of "Star Trek 2," but all that changed Friday when some juicy set pictures were leaked online. The two images show Zachary Quinto and then Zoe Saldana facing off against Benedict Cumberbatch, the new villain in the film. Though they weren't particularly spoilers, the pics did give plenty of fodder for fans speculating about Cumberbatch's role.

Needless to say, notoriously secretive director J.J. Abrams was none too pleased about the leak. MTV News caught up with Saldana at the Independent Spirit Awards, where she talked about the director's reaction.

"J.J. was very upset," she said. "I have to say that. It's not going to stop people from intruding, but they are, and it's such a bummer because it only hurts them by stealing away the surprise."

That's the same sort of sentiment actors on the set of films like "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises" have echoed as the Internet-savvy fan culture becomes increasingly intrusive. Several questions were raised from the images, such as why Cumberbatch is wearing a variation of the Star Fleet uniform and why Quinto's Vulcan death grip fails when he uses it on the "Sherlock" star's character.

There's been a lot of excitement surrounding Cumberbatch's inclusion in the cast, though little is known about his role. Saldana wouldn't give away any details about his character, but she did say what she thinks he's adding to the film: "Another yummy male actor in 'Star Trek' — that's what he's adding, and I'm enjoying it," she said with a laugh.

"Star Trek 2" also stars Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. It's due in theaters May 17, 2013.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? In about 24 hours, Danica Patrick went from her biggest crash to her biggest moment in a stock car.

The former IndyCar star won the pole Friday for the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona, becoming the first woman to secure the top qualifying spot in NASCAR?s second-tier series since Shawna Robinson at Atlanta on March 12, 1994.

It came a day after she wrecked on the final lap of a qualifying race for the Daytona 500.

?It?s a good turn of events,? she said.

It also set off a flurry of Twitter traffic that included words such as ?Dansanity,? ?Danimosity,? ?Danimite,? and ?Dantastic.?

?I really don?t think about it from a girl perspective,? she said with her proud parents standing a few yards away. ?I?ve been taught from a young age to want to be the best driver. ? It was about being the best driver and not the best girl.?

Patrick won just once in 115 IndyCar starts. She had seven podium finishes, and two of them came when she began dabbling in NASCAR two seasons ago. She moved to NASCAR full time this season, and is scheduled to drive 10 Sprint Cup races for Stewart-Haas Racing and run every Nationwide race for JR Motorsports.

She will make her Sprint Cup debut in the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

The Nationwide race is Saturday. She has three top-10 finishes in 25 Nationwide races over two years.

She has felt some pressure since leaving open wheel for stock-car racing. And now, after securing the pole, everything has been ratcheted up a notch.

?When you sit on the pole, you?re the fastest car, so if you don?t win the race, then I just wasted the fastest car,? she said. ?So, yes, it adds a lot of pressure and I now feel nervous. Thanks a lot, pole position. You?ve made me nervous already, but it?s a good problem to have and I don?t mind being nervous.

?It tends to bring out some good things in me, so I?m not bothered by that. But expectations, sure, yeah, anybody who sits on the pole is going to expected to do well because they obviously have a good car.?

Patrick turned a fast lap of 49.250 seconds around the high-banked speedway, averaging 182.741 mph.

Defending Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne qualified second, followed by Elliott Sadler, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Austin Dillon.

And there was little, if any, animosity about the qualifying results ? err, Danimosity.

?I think it?s got a good shot for No. 1 on SportsCenter,? Bayne said. ?That?s always good for our sport. We look for these kinds of moments. NASCAR keeps talking about star power, and these are the kinds of moments that are going to help our whole sport. Not just Danica or our team, but our whole sport. The more eyeballs, it?s all better for us. ? Even though we?re just a second-place guy at this point, it?s really cool. I think it is good all the way around.?

Sadler was equally complimentary, but made it clear that results will matter more than poles.

?This is good for the sport,? Sadler said. ?It?s going to bring more people, more attention. All the attention she?s getting, she still has to race. It?s cool the extra attention she?s bringing, but that won?t give her one extra point at all. It?s just going to bring a lot of attention to the sport.?

Patrick was trending on Twitter after earning the pole, no surprise since she?s somewhat of a polarizing figure in the auto racing world. Some question her talent. Others believe she gets way too much attention because of her good looks and those sultry television commercials for sponsor GoDaddy.com.

She can mute most of that with early success.

And it will start at the front of the pack Saturday.

?That?s so cool for her to start off the season that way,? Bayne said. ?She?s looking for that boost, and that?s a good kick in the butt right there to be on the pole for the first race of the season. That?s the momentum you need to build on. It?s going to take those kinds of moments to build up her confidence. She?s done a good job of holding her own here.?

LONDON (AP) -A League Cup final and the club's first appearance at the rebuilt Wembley aren't going to distract Liverpool from its real focus this season.

Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy said that even though Sunday's final will throw him up against his hometown club, Cardiff, it is less important than securing fourth place in the Premier League and a spot in next season's Champions League.

"That is our main objective," Bellamy said. "That is what we set out for this season. Cup competitions are a big bonus for us but we are looking at the Champions League.

"A win on Sunday might push us forward but if it didn't we still have a lot to play for - and so do Cardiff."

Second-tier Cardiff could become the first Welsh side to win the League Cup and the first to win either of England's major cup competitions since it beat Arsenal in the 1927 FA Cup final.

But Bellamy suggested that the Bluebirds are also looking at winning Sunday's final at the 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium as a bonus, since Cardiff is chasing promotion from the League Championship to the Premier League.

"The season isn't over for either of us, whichever one loses," Bellamy said. "If we lose on Sunday, we still have so much to play for this season and it is the same for Cardiff.

"Would we choose Champions League over the Carling (League) Cup? I think we would. Would Cardiff choose getting to the Premier League over the Carling Cup? I think they would as well."

The six years since Liverpool's 2006 FA Cup final win over West Ham equals the club's longest wait for a trophy since 1973. On only one other occasion since then have Liverpool fans had to wait so long to celebrate silverware.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, who was part of the team that won four of the club's record seven League Cup titles, has to choose whether to start Bellamy up front, out wide or even omit him in favor of partnering Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez up front.

"I came here to win medals," Carroll said. "We've got a great team and a great squad, so he could put anyone in and anyone will do a job. I've just got to work hard this week and try to get myself in the starting 11."

Unusually, England's national anthem will not be played before kickoff. Both the English and Welsh anthems have been played at previous finals between teams from those nations but this was abandoned by the Football League in 2003 after fans had jeered them.

"It is the long-standing policy of the Football League not to play national anthems when English and Welsh clubs meet in finals," the Football League said. "The League regards these matches as domestic rather than international occasions and introduced this policy after fans failed to respect both anthems at previous finals."

Also this weekend, Premier League leader Manchester City hosts Blackburn on Saturday, while second-place Manchester United is at Norwich. Tottenham is at north London rival Arsenal on Sunday with a chance to tighten its grip on third place and a Champions League qualifying berth.

AMSTERDAM -- Austrian doctors treating the Dutch Prince Johan Friso said Friday that he suffered "massive brain damage" after being buried by an avalanche last week and he may never regain consciousness.

Doctor Wolfgang Koller said MRI scans had showed his brain?may have suffered?lasting harm?in the avalanche in Lech on Feb. 17.

"It is clear that the oxygen starvation has caused massive brain damage to the patient," Koller said. "At the moment, it cannot be predicted if he will ever regain consciousness."

The 43-year-old prince will be moved at a later date to a private clinic for further treatment but it may take years before he awakens, if ever.

I am considering doing this so as not to have to drill over 85 holes in my rafters to run the cable otherwise. I am feeding a sub panel from my main panel for addition i put on the rear of my house.

That stuff does not fair well at all when put underground.
